Typically, senior centers are not interested in the more complicated 30-page self-assessment survey (the McKinsey Capacity Self-Assessment Survey). The modified evaluation is only 2 ages long, and has all of the important questions to evaluate a senior center’s operations.

In her book The Seven Powers of Questions, Dorothy Leeds explains that how one asks a question determines the type of response you will get. When a conference organizer told her he was cancelling his conference, instead of asking “Why?” she asked, “Why did you want to do this conference in the first place?” By phrasing the question in a positive manner, Ms. Leeds elicited a more positive response, and was able to talk the conference organizer into keeping the conference on schedule.
